Sweetest of Sensations

In the earliest of morning childhood memories I remember the feeling of dew.

We'd run outside to feel that early summer sunshine on our faces,
our toes wet with the moisture soaked grass.
We'd revel in the heat of the sun, and the coolness of the grass,
and drink it in like we would have that moment forever.
Sweetest of sensations.

Summer Dew Ring is created around a gorgoeus pale green Prehnite stone, that I have created a setting for in sterling and fine silver with a beaded edge along the bezel. It sits on a floral patterned 3mm wide sterling silver ring band. 

Materials : sterling silver and prehnite 
Finish : brushed satin

Ten Things Tuesday

It's been a while since I have done a Ten Things Tuesday, and since it is still Tuesday over here on the West Coast, I thought "why not?"

1. Monday hit me with a bang this week, Tuesday have been no different, goodness the weeks are going fast this month!

2. I spent the day visiting a friend and meeting her beautiful new born daughter, Kaylee. I brought her this :

3. Baby envy. Nuff said.

4. Dan just informed me he needs cupcakes for a work bake sale on friday - looks like I know what I will be doing tomorrow! Anyone have an creative cupcake ideas?

5. In just a few weeks I will be entering my last year in my 20s. not sure I'm ready for that.

6. I'm thinking this is mighty boring to read right now.

7. I'm having lunch with an old friend this weekend, anyone know how I can shed 30lbs by then? Sigh, am I crazy to avoid things like this, for silly reasons like weight? ( how many of you are nodding your heads "yes" right now?)

8. The produce has been utter crap this season, likely due to heavy rains. I mean seriously $4.99 a pound for green grapes!?!

9. Nothing like good old homemade mac and cheese for dinner to make a girl feel good. Sooo comforting.

10. Do you ever set goals for yourself, then feel like you've failed a bit when you don't come close to meeting them? Quite a few years ago I set some goals for myself on things I wanted to do before I was 30, and now that I am hitting 29 soon, I am realizing how many of these goals are out of my grasp, and I feel kinda crappy about it. I guess, I thought I would have accomplished more by now? I suppose a heavy burden to put on ones shoulders...

Reminders for the soul

I skipped out of town this weekend. I just needed to.
After a particularly stressful few weeks, I used Mother's Day as an excuse to hop on a ferry, and zoom zoom up the coast for a little family time. Of course, it always sounds easier than it is...
My ferry was over 45 minutes late, and when I got there an hour before sailing, there was already 70% of the boat claimed! So, after waiting and waiting, I finally caught my 7:20pm ferry some time around ten past eight.
A little hungry, perhaps a tad cranky, but I got on the ferry, so I was a happy camper to finally be moving. I watched the sun set over the rails, and let the warm breeze kiss my face.
Have I mentioned it's been raining here in Vancouver since the dawn of time? We finally got some sun!

After finally arriving at Casa Familia, there was a cold beverage waiting for me ( even if I did expect to be enjoying that drink a good 2 hours earlier). The phone went on silent, the feet went up, and the stories began, as one might do when mixed with people full of great memories.
The next two days were filled with hauling soil, filling pots and baskets, strolling through farmers markets, and getting a rosy hue to my skin. My arms ached from shoveling, and my arms tingled a little from my sun burn, but I loved every minute of it! Like being kids again, my brother and I put to work in the backyard, getting outside and breathing in the air.God I missed the smell of that clean, sweet smelling air!{note to self, please start making excuses to be outside more, it is good for your soul!}

At the end of the night, we BBQ'ed up a tasty dinner, well deserved by everyone and sat out on the deck laughing and sipping. I can't remember how long it had been since I had just taken the time to unplug from life. Perhaps it's all part of being a small business owner, always working, but goodness was it nice to take a few nights off and not drown myself with thoughts.
At the end of the evening, Tucker curled up on one of the chairs, relieved to get some relief from the hot sun, and we all headed to a neighbors for a bon fire - what better way to end the first warm weekend of the year I ask?


It was like being a kid again, and it was heaven.When was the last time you unplugged? The last time you spent some time with family reminiscing the good times, and adding to the memories?I had let myself get entirely too used to always working between two jobs. Even when taking a formal vacation, I have always felt the need to check in and keep on top of things. It may not have been some amazing adventure, or crazy vacation away, but my weekend was a glorious start to setting more boundaries for myself.
